New Delhi: The 28th Annual Day of Airports Authority of India (AAI) was celebrated with enthusiasm by the employees in New Delhi on 1st April at a function organized in the national capital.
The Airports Authority of India was constituted by an Act of Parliament and came into existence on 1 April 1995 by merging the erstwhile National Airports Authority and the International Airports Authority of India.
The merger came into existence as an organization entrusted with the responsibility of creating, upgrading, maintaining and managing civil aviation infrastructure in the country, both in ground and airspace.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Road Transport & Highways General VK Singh (Retd), Rajeev Bansal, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, Airports Authority of India (AAI) were present on the occasion.
The chief guest of the event General VK Singh congratulated the employees of AAI for achieving tremendous growth in the aviation sector of India.
He said, “Before 2014 there were only 70 airports, but now in the last nine years, more airports have become operational. After 2014, more than 70 airports have come up.”
AAI President Sanjeev Kumar in his speech emphasized on increasing airport infrastructure and air connectivity in the country.
“This year also, we will inaugurate the new greenfield airport at Hirasar in Ayodhya and we are also building a new greenfield airport at Dholera in Ahmedabad,” Kumar said, adding that we will see almost one project every month in the coming year. , we will be able to dedicate to the nation. So this year around 12-15 projects will be completed. We are starting new work in Jammu, Udaipur, Bagdogra and many more places.”
The Guest of Honour, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Rajeev Bansal congratulated AAI for achieving the record target of 5000 crores of Capital Expenditure (Capex) in the financial year 2022-23.
He appreciated the efforts of AAI in reviving the aviation industry after a long hiatus due to COVID-19.
The function was replete with music and dance performances by renowned singers and artistes.
The Chairman wished the employees on the 28th Annual Day celebrations of AAI.
He affirmed that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will continue to make efforts for the development of the civil aviation industry in the country.
“We are doing good work and working as a team from bottom to top and top to bottom.
