A representative of the group said all households in the area would be covered in six months, after which the needs of the next nearest village would be met.
The objective of the initiative is to provide health facilities and check up to rural and tribal people in some parts of India. Dr Swapna Singh, head of the CSR wing of IMS, said that a health database of the patients would be maintained for follow up and future reference.
“Though the government has launched several health programs under the National Health Mission, and has set up around 29,000 PHCs in the country, most of the PHCs lack manpower and infrastructure. There are areas that remain out of reach.”

While the clinic will provide blood tests, medicines for unwell people, and in case of intensive treatment the patient will be linked to the Clinic on Wheels at the nearest Medical College Hospital. Dr. Singh said that the hospital will provide free treatment to the patient. The counselors on the vehicle will counsel the drug addict and take him to a nearby de-addiction center if needed.
The 55 seater bus will have IV line, oxygen cylinder, generic medicines, diabetic hypertensive medicine and emergency kit. While the Rs 70 lakh bus (including equipment) is funded by IMS and the seven staff – doctor, nurse, pharmacist, attendant, health counselor, data operator, and lab technician – will be courtesy of the partner hospital. He said that 120 hospitals in the district have agreed to extend their services across the country.
The foundation plans to set up five buses in parts of Karnataka and a similar number of clinics in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh by September.
“The bus will be stationed at the center of the village from morning till evening and will serve 100-150 OPD patients,” said Dr Singh.
