It’s true that he doesn’t have the backing of the Chopra-Johar group of Bollywood’s powerful filmmakers, but Devgan has managed to carve his niche without relying on brand-name directors.
“I don’t label films and directors. Every film of mine is important to me. And whether it is Prakash Jha, Mani Ratnam, Ramgopal Varma Ya Kuku Kohli, I value every assignment. But let me be clear, my life and career is not dependent on any one project,” Devgn said in a 2008 interview.
There hasn’t been much change in his attitude towards work. The easygoing attitude is seen as a part of Devgn’s career strategy. But he doesn’t care about his profession. It is an illusion. Devgan cares. But he does not believe in playing one sided game.
“What is mine will be mine. What is not should never have been,” he has said in the past. The actor has always impressed the audience with his versatility. However, he is not comfortable talking about his achievements.
He had said in a previous conversation, “I am like this and I don’t want to change myself. I have tried to understand the media, but it makes me uncomfortable. The way I am, I am a happy person.” As long as I can look back on my career and say that I did everything on my own terms, I have no reason to regret it. I look at my career as an investment. I hope I look back 20 years from now and make my daughter proud of what I’ve done. I really believe that there is no point in talking about myself. As long as you know about my achievements, there’s really no point in announcing them from the rooftops.
Devgan said in 2008 that the most important thing is to be honest with your work. “Don’t expect the world to bow to your whims just because you’re successful today. Success can be lost at any moment. Ajay is a fearless actor. “I’m not afraid of any competition and I’m not afraid of making mistakes. I want to grow as an actor. And the only way to grow is by taking risks. On one hand Ajay did a sad Omkara, on the other hand he did silly comedies like Golmaal – Fun Unlimited.
Devgn had revealed, “I wouldn’t call it silly. Filmmaking is also about entertainment. I would have loved to have done ‘Golmaal’ along with ‘Omkara’. I want that kind of excitement and range in my career. Man. I get bored easily. ‘Golmaal’ worked at the box office and that means it connected with the audience.”
Ajay, who has worked with actors like Saif Ali Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan, Don’t feel uncomfortable working with anyone. He confessed, “I’ve never had a problem working with an actor. If you don’t get into other actors’ shoes, they won’t get into yours. That’s my survival mantra.”
Unlike other media savvy stars, Devgan is not comfortable giving interviews. He is almost impossible to catch, and this is not only because of his innate suspiciousness. It also has to do with his constantly changing cellphone number.
Devgan is a man of constant change. When asked, he revealed, “I hate talking on the phone.
