New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Piyush Goyal lauded the visionary and astute leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi In the last nine years which has made India the third largest country start up ecosystem of the world.
In his keynote address at the concluding session of the annual e-Summit Consortium 2023 at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur on Sunday, the minister said, “India is respected and valued worldwide as a hub of technology.”
He said that as a nation, India has found its true respect in the community of nations and the new India is offering friendship and partnership to the world.
“India continues to march ahead on the path to becoming the world’s largest economy, while ensuring that growth is sustainable and inclusive,” Goyal said.
“The efforts of the government have helped in successfully running India’s economy, effectively dealing with the Covid pandemic and laying the foundation of an emerging superpower,” he said.
The Minister also appreciated VNIT for bringing various stakeholders like investors, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists etc. on a common platform and encouraging startups and entrepreneurship in the region.
The minister said, “Indian youth are showcasing immense talent and capabilities across the globe with Indians leading global companies. Atmanirbhar Bharat Powered by technology and innovation that is helping youth become job creators rather than job seekers.”
He said that over 90,000 startups registered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) have created one million jobs directly and many more indirectly.
He appreciated startups for providing simple yet highly effective solutions for people and businesses; This has improved Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living.
“There is gender parity in startups as almost half of startups have at least one woman director and women entrepreneurs are leading many successful startups,” she said.
He said startups make India a country of technology and ideas.
The minister highlighted the achievements of the government in good governance, e-governance, whole government approach to work, National Education Policy 2020, circular economy, renewable energy, climate change, etc.
“Digital connectivity and urbanization is being done in small towns and cities to enable the youth to work in hybrid mode to meet the demand for Indian technical and managerial talent across the globe,” he added.
“It is significant that India’s total exports in the financial year 2022-23 are expected to be around $765 billion in the 75th year of independence, when the global situation is so challenging, with growth in both goods and services,” he said.
He also mentioned that the historic collection of Goods and Services Tax in February 2023 is a result of greater formalization of the economy and significant growth momentum.
He said, “The recently released Foreign Trade Policy 2023 has many features which depict Aatmanirbhar Bharat as a powerful and strong nation which is ready to engage with the world as equals.”
“The government is working for convergence of academia, industry and investors,” he added.
He said the way forward for India is transformation through continuous reform resulting in a New India that is aspirational and progressing at a very fast pace.
“Swadeshi and innovative thinking is the need of the hour and the students of VNIT will take this spirit of innovation with them across the country,” said the minister.
