Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann sets Baisakhi deadline for compensating farmers | Chandigarh News


Chandigarh : Chief Minister of Punjab to speed up the process of Girdawari and solve the problems of the farmers. Bhagwant Mann On Sunday, the MLAs and officials were directed to visit the area to ensure compensation for crop loss to farmers ahead of Baisakhi.
“The legislators should meet the farmers and listen to their grievances. Similarly, the officials should ensure to complete the special girdawari at the earliest so that we can distribute the compensation before Baisakhi,” said the CM.
Expressing solidarity with the farmers who lost their crops due to incessant rains and hailstorm, Mann said that the government is with the farmers in this hour of crisis. He said that loss of every penny would be compensated.
Mann said he is personally monitoring the entire operation on a day-to-day basis to ensure that all affected farmers are compensated in a transparent and prompt manner.
The Chief Minister said that coming from a humble family, he was personally aware of the sufferings of the farmers and compensation to them was the topmost priority of the State Government.
He said that any level of laxity or lapse in the government machinery during Girdavari will not be tolerated at all.
He said that a public announcement is being made about the entire process to make everyone aware about it and the compensation per acre has been increased by 25 per cent.
The Chief Minister said that as a major farmer-friendly initiative, the state government has decided to freeze the repayment of loans taken by farmers from primary agricultural cooperative societies.
Mann hoped that this would provide much needed relief to the farmers in the hour of crisis and the farmers would be able to pay this amount later after recovering from the loss.
