Chennai has now got a homegrown social networking platform for foodies. Called Foodwall, the platform will help consumers engage in anything related to food. “Usually one big problem we all face is where to go out to eat, there is always a doubt to experiment… whether the place is good or not. There are no structured platforms for food recommendations. And that’s where we come in,” said Saravan Krishna M., Founder and CEO, Foodwall.
The idea to start this platform was born in 2018 and it was then that Saravan met his school friend Amogh Arunkumar and within a few months he brought him on board as co-founder and chief customer officer. took. “We both went to Chettinad Vidyashram and got to know each other’s strengths. Also, Amogh is a former restaurateur and he puts the user at the center of the app and ensures that their experience is great,” said Mr. Krishna, an alumnus of the College of Engineering Guindy and IIM-Bangalore. Foodwall, which is currently available on iOS and Android, has more than 700 users since its inception on June 12. The founders intend to reach over a million users in the next 100 days. start up, which currently focuses on the Chennai market, plans to expand its footprint to other major cities in India and is looking to enter the United States market by the end of this year. When asked why America, Mr. Krishna said, “America is the heart of the social network… and when we want to go global, we want America to be first.” Apart from the US, the startup is also evaluating other global markets.
Asked why there was a need for such a platform when the internet is flooded with suggestions and reviews on food, Mr. Krishna said that most of the platforms are inclined towards restaurants. “Their first customer is the restaurant and for us our first customer is the user,” he said and added, “Like LinkedIn is for professionals, Foodwall is for food lovers.”
The startup which is completely bootstrapped is looking to raise funds to fuel its expansion plans, technology and marketing.
