New Delhi: Yuzvendra Chahal on Sunday etched his name in the record books by becoming the first Indian bowler to take 300 wickets in t20 cricket, Rajasthan Royals The bowler achieved this feat during IPL 2023 match against Sunrise Hyderabad in Hyderabad.
Chahal achieved the landmark when he cleaned up SRH batsman Harry Brook with a length delivery. He dismissed Mayank Agarwal, Adil Rashid and skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar to return figures of 4/17.
He has taken 303 wickets in 265 T20 matches at an average of 23.60 and an economy rate of 7.58. Of these, 91 wickets have come in T20I cricket for India in 75 matches at an average of 24.68 and an economy rate of 8.13.
Ravichandran Ashwin is second on the list with 287 wickets in T20 cricket, followed by Piyush Chawla (276 wickets).
Chahal is also the third highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League. He has taken 170 wickets in 132 matches at an average of 21.42 and an economy rate of 7.59.
Coming into the match, Jos Buttler smashed a brilliant half-century to help Rajasthan Royals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs in their opening match of the IPL.
Buttler’s 22-ball 54 propelled the team’s batting as they posted 203/5, and then their bowlers restricted the hosts to 131/8 in the first match of the day.
